Background of the Study
The role of women in political leadership has become an important issue in contemporary Nigerian politics. In Jalingo LGA, the capital of Taraba State, women have increasingly taken on leadership roles, but their participation in local governance has faced numerous challenges, including patriarchal attitudes, cultural barriers, and limited access to political power (Kassim & Ali, 2024). This study will assess the role of women in local political leadership in Jalingo, examining both the opportunities and barriers they face in contributing to local governance.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing recognition of women's roles in leadership, political participation in Jalingo LGA remains largely male-dominated, with women often excluded from decision-making processes. This research will investigate the extent to which women participate in political leadership in Jalingo and the challenges they encounter in their quest for political power.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
To assess the level of women’s participation in local political leadership in Jalingo LGA.
To identify the challenges faced by women in political leadership roles in Jalingo LGA.
To explore the impact of women’s political leadership on local governance and development in Jalingo LGA.

1.5 Research Hypotheses
Women have limited participation in political leadership in Jalingo LGA.
Cultural and societal barriers significantly hinder women’s political participation in Jalingo LGA.
Women’s participation in political leadership positively impacts local governance and development in Jalingo LGA.
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to the growing body of knowledge on women’s political participation in Nigeria, particularly at the local government level. It will provide insights into the challenges women face in political leadership and suggest ways to enhance their involvement in governance in Jalingo LGA (Amina & Idris, 2024).
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the political leadership roles of women in Jalingo LGA, examining the period from 2015 to 2023. Limitations include potential bias in reporting from political leaders and the difficulty of accessing sensitive information on gender discrimination in local politics.
