Background of the Study

The role of women in political leadership has become an important issue in contemporary Nigerian politics. In Jalingo LGA, the capital of Taraba State, women have increasingly taken on leadership roles, but their participation in local governance has faced numerous challenges, including patriarchal attitudes, cultural barriers, and limited access to political power (Kassim & Ali, 2024). This study will assess the role of women in local political leadership in Jalingo, examining both the opportunities and barriers they face in contributing to local governance.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the growing recognition of women's roles in leadership, political participation in Jalingo LGA remains largely male-dominated, with women often excluded from decision-making processes. It will provide insights into the challenges women face in political leadership and suggest ways to enhance their involvement in governance in Jalingo LGA (Amina & Idris, 2024).

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on the political leadership roles of women in Jalingo LGA, examining the period from 2015 to 2023. Limitations include potential bias in reporting from political leaders and the difficulty of accessing sensitive information on gender discrimination in local politics.
